AVT 395
Writing for Artists: Graphic Design Edition

Project 1: Bring a photocopy of an article from Print, Communication Arts, Eye, ID or Baseline that you think has a particularly effective lede and nut. The article you choose must be at least one year old. (You will find all of the above magazines in the Fenwick periodical room.) Be prepared to discuss your article next Tuesday.

Reminder: Students are required to attend Ballyhoo: Posters as Portraiture at the National Portrait Gallery. You will be writing a critique of one of the posters on exhibit, which will be posted upon completion on the class blog. Your critique must be in lede/nut form, and may consider typography, composition, scale, how art/illustration is used, historical context, how your poster fits into the broader exhibit (physical and curatorial), and other factors. Every student must choose a unique poster, approved by me in class or via e-mail on a first-come basis.

The museum is adjacent to the Gallery Place/Chinatown station (follow signs for “Museums” in the station). Admission is free. Complete visitor information for NPG can be found here.
