Art Director. Washington City Paper, Washington, D.C. Responsible for design and production of editorial sections of 136+ page alternative weekly with a 98,000+ circulation. Supervision of production staff and photographers, commissioning of freelance illustration and photography. Highlights: Redesigned editorial sections, including banner and front page; converted editorial production from traditional cold type to desktop; developed new work flow and procedures; trained production and editorial staff in new methods and software; and selected and purchased required new equipment.

Freelance Graphic Design, Illustration, and Production. Highlights: Redesigned chain of 9 weekly broadsheet newspapers in Illinois. Partial redesign and art direction of The Bulletin of Atomic Scientist, a 50-year-old consumer magazine. Designed Today’s Traveler and Midwest Gap, two start-up consumer magazines. Designed and produced several issues of Isis Report, the newsletter of a global security think tank. Designed and produced publicity for The 57th Street Art Fair (Chicago). Drew technical illustrations for Masking the Blow, a book on ancient Egyptian art. Drew technical illustrations for The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. Designed, produced, and coordinated outside services for History of a Family Dispersed, a 300-page book with 90 photographs and 70 tables.
